Justin Bates and Alex Tsamouras launched the South Meets East Food Truck in October 2013. As trained chefs they use the highest quality ingredients and inspirations from around the world to create the tastiest fusion Tacos, Burritos and Quesadillas in Washington.

Chef Justin Bates' passion for food developed at a young age cooking with his grandmother and mother in the small town of Boerne, outside of San Antonio, TX. At age 15 Justin bounced around from job to job learning the inner workings of professional kitchens. With time Justin moved from dishwasher, to line cook, to sous chef, and now business owner. In 2006, Justin enrolled in The Le Cordon Blue Culinary School in Austin, Texas, where he was trained in Classic French Cuisine. After graduation in 2008, Justin worked in the local Austin, TX restaurant scene at places like Vespaio where he learned traditional Italian plates. In 2008 Justin then moved to Washington D.C. to train under acclaimed chef Dimitri Moshovitis, chef owner of the Cava Mezze Restaurant Group. Justin worked at Cava Mezze for several years and helped to open Sugo Osteria in Park Potomac, MD.
